Actually when I think about it, I became a fan of The Roots about the time I first started blogging (journaling at the time). I suppose this was just over ten years ago. Boy was I going through a ton of changes at the time - pretty much becoming an adult and making a lot of adult decisions. Great job at NASA, chair of a non profit, cool girlfriend (until she broke up with me and started dating this total sleeze, sorry T) and that was probably about the time I became a foodie. Don't know why I picked this one up tonight to listen to.
What ever happened to rap music? I can;t blame people for hating rap these days as most (make that all) of the stuff on the radio is crap. The Roots get it right. They have been rockin' Philly for a long, long time and I wish more people would follow their lead. An MC, real drums, bass and horns. This is how you move a crowd.

Seriously, I used to sit on South St on summer evenings listening to them play across the street. I love them and own everything by them. They do it right, that's the best way I can explain it.
Approachable without an air of attitude among them.
I'm a little jaded though. Back in the day before the hit big they were our little secret up here. You could go see them at little venues seating 100 people tops. You'd sit there, grab a pint and just shake your ass for an hour and a half with people of every race, creed, and preference. Those were great times. Nowadays you go to a show and theres 5,000 people there and you could only get lawn seats half a mile from the stage.
One of my personal favorites.
I've never heard of them before. *gasp*
But now that I have, I liked what I heard. I'll Google 'em and check 'em out some more.
Thanks for the heads up!
Yeah The Roots are certainly one of my favs if not my fav of the rap groups out there now. I would love to be able to check them out in a small setting. Its cool to see ?uestlove doing other stuff too.
